Ms. Aribah Aslam, Lecturer and Ph.D. Scholar at the UOL’s Department of Economics has been selected for the Nobel Laureate Meetings 2020 due in Lindau, Germany, 2020. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) recently finalized the selection of the 14 candidates (Aribah inclusive) for participation in the 70th Interdisciplinary and 7th Economics Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings in the summer of 2020.
This year, around 300 applications of candidates with first class academic career were submitted to HEC from all over Pakistan, out of which 50 applicants were shortlisted and interviewed. After the interviews, 10 applicants were nominated for the 70th Interdisciplinary Nobel Laureate Meeting and four applicants for the 7th Economics Nobel Laureate Meeting. Ms. Aslam secured first position among the top four candidates selected for the 7th Economics Meeting. “This achievement belongs to everybody who has ever made a contribution in academic life. It is by the Grace of Allah, the Almighty that I was selected for the Nobel Laureate Meeting among 300 top candidates for the year 2020. My special thanks to the UOL generally and to all my respected teachers at the Economics Department in particular,” Aslam said while sharing her feelings about this milestone. She is also indebted to her father and the entire family for their continuous support and encouragement.
The interaction with Nobel Laureates is a joint venture of HEC, PIEAS, and the Council for Nobel Laureate Meetings in Lindau, Germany agreed upon a formal memorandum of understanding. Priority in the selection process is given to the candidates with first-class academic career, excellence in board or university examinations and research publications to their credit.
Ms. Aslam, a recipient of Gold Medals at both MPhil and BS. Hons levels, has published ten research papers nationally and internationally to her name. This is the second time for a student and faculty of the Department of Economics to be selected for the prestigious event after Dr. Ghulam Rasool Madni last year. The Nobel Laureate Meetings are based on the principle of dialogue, and serve to foster an exchange of knowledge, ideas and experience between laureates and young researchers.
